Catherine Garcia anchors NBC 7 News weeknights at 4 p.m., 6 p.m., and 11 p.m. An award-winning journalist, she has received multiple Emmy Awards and a Golden Mike Award for her reporting in San Diego.
Garcia joined NBC 7 in 2003 after working as a reporter and anchor at WFAA in Dallas. She also spent several years anchoring and reporting in Austin and El Paso. She began her journalism career behind the scenes at CNN Headquarters in Atlanta and the CNN Los Angeles Bureau.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism with a minor in Spanish from the University of Southern California and also studied abroad through the Semester at Sea program.
Garcia is especially proud of her in-depth reporting projects, including “Breakdown: Investigating San Diego’s Health Care Crisis,” which examined the region’s mental health care system, and “Poison Pill,” a documentary focused on the fentanyl crisis.
Outside the newsroom, Garcia enjoys spending time with her family, including her two cats and two dogs. She is also a fan of tennis, traveling, great food, and USC Trojans athletics.
